Case Study Assignment: Design a Cutting and Recovery Plan
Assignment Brief
Select one of the five athlete case studies from Lesson 2.2. Using the Weight Cut Planning Worksheet, produce a complete cutting and recovery plan.
Your plan must include:
- Athlete profile and risk assessment - Complete the athlete profile summary and identify the specific performance and health risks for your selected scenario.
- Flow chart application with justified path selection - Work through the Reale et al. decision flow chart. Record each decision node, the outcome, and your reasoning.
- Day-by-day cutting strategy - Specify the tactic, the goal, and monitoring notes for each day from the start of the plan to the weigh-in.
- Rehydration and recovery plan - Calculate fluid replacement targets. Specify carbohydrate refeeding amounts and food choices. Account for the available recovery time.
- Reflection and justification - Explain why you selected these strategies for this athlete. Describe how risk is reduced. Identify what the athlete needs to understand.
